SPARKS TONIGHT
vs. Sacramento Monarchs
* Records: Sparks 2-5, Monarchs 1-6.
* Site: Arco Arena.
* Radio: KLAC 570 AM.
* Update: Whenever they travel to Sacramento, it seems, bad news follows the Sparks. Two weeks ago, promising rookie Allison Feaster broke a foot here and is out for the season. Monday, while the team practiced at an area high school, came word that 6-foot-8 Haixia Zheng will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday morning for removal of torn cartilage. “We don’t look for Haixia to be back for at least two weeks,†General Manager Rhonda Windham said. Meanwhile, the Sparks hope to end a three-game losing streak tonight in a game matching teams with similar woes. The Monarchs, losers of five straight, are plodding on without their superstar, Ruthie Bolton-Holifield, who’s out for the season after blowing out her knee against Detroit last week. The Sparks, losers of five of their last six, will have added incentive tonight. The Monarchs practiced Monday at Arco Arena during the time they’d assigned to the Sparks, forcing Los Angeles to scramble and find a local high school gym. League grievance to follow.
