Trustees Adopt Budget Pending State Action

The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees adopted a budget of $205 million for the 1998-99 school year at Monday’s board meeting.
The budget reflects the state’s cost-of-living adjustment of 2.18%, as well as new state revenue earmarked for textbooks.
The budget also includes funding for school start-up costs and an increased number of teachers to serve the growing student population, said Julie Jennings, district spokeswoman.
Other programs include the continuation of class-size reduction, enhancement of the eighth-grade science curriculum and the replacement of school buses.
Because Gov. Pete Wilson and the Legislature have not yet adopted a state budget, some specific funding levels are still not certain.
Once a final state budget is adopted, the board will consider a revised final budget for 1998-99.
