Car Falls on Man, Fractures His Skull
TUJUNGA — A Tujunga man suffered severe head injuries when a car he was repairing fell on top of him Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
Francisco Argeta, who is in his 40s, was flown by a Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills with a skull fracture and other possible injuries, Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis said.
He was listed in critical condition Saturday evening, hospital nursing supervisor Richie Steinborn said.
The accident occurred in a parking lot behind Argeta’s apartment in the 7000 block of Foothill Boulevard and was reported to the Fire Department at 3:15 p.m.
Argeta’s daughter, Carmen, 17, said her father was working on his car’s engine when the vehicle fell on him.
Foothill Boulevard was temporarily closed by police to allow the helicopter to land--a rescue complicated by numerous power and telephone lines near the accident site, Collis said.
