The reigning No. 1 movie, “The Truman Show,†became the focus of a multimillion-dollar lawsuit Tuesday when a New York playwright accused Paramount Pictures of stealing his 1992 off-off-Broadway play.

Mark Dunn, author of a play titled “Frank’s Story,†filed the suit in Manhattan federal court, alleging that Paramount, a unit of Viacom Inc., infringed his copyright.

Carl Person, Dunn’s lawyer, said his client will seek 100% of Paramount’s proceeds from the film, which he estimated could reach $750 million. Gross revenue from the Jim Carrey vehicle has topped $60 million after 10 days in theaters.
