The Mobile Bay Bears, a double-A Padres affiliate, are hoping Gary Matthews Jr. (Granada Hills High) can come off the disabled list Sunday. Matthews, who was batting .395, has missed almost six weeks because of a sprained right wrist.
Mobile teammate Mike Mitchell (Rio Mesa) had two hits on Thursday night and leads the Southern League with a .359 average.
Earlier in the day, Mitchell was selected to the Southern League all-star game, which will be played June 22 at Mobile.
