Theater Bomb Kills 3; India Blamed
A bomb tore through a movie theater in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, killing three and injuring 10. At least four of the injured were in critical condition, and officials said the death toll could rise. About 50 people were in the theater when the bomb went off. No one immediately claimed responsibility, but the government blamed neighboring India. “This act was done by Indians,†said Miraj Din, a spokesman for the ruling Pakistan Muslim League. “We were expecting something like this.†Suicide bombers were suspected, but the exact circumstances of the blast were unclear, Police Chief Wahab Ali said. The two nations routinely accuse each other of sabotage, and recent nuclear tests initiated by India and matched by Pakistan have strained relations.
