Habitat for Humanity to Dedicate 8 Homes
Habitat for Humanity of Orange County will soon dedicate its first homes in the city.
Located on Irvine Co. land on Tortuga Street at Paseo Westpark, the eight homes range in size from 1,169 square feet with three bedrooms to 1,285 square feet with four bedrooms. Each includes an attached two-car garage, living room, dining area, kitchen and 1 1/2 bathrooms.
The homes will be nearly complete when they are dedicated on Aug. 9, said Joan Ziegler, spokeswoman for the organization.
“They are built in accordance with all Irvine covenants,†she said. “They have the tile roofs and Spanish architecture in accordance with all of the other homes in the neighborhood.â€
Habitat now has built 71 homes countywide, housing 266 people. Six more are planned for a site across the street on Tortuga Street. The eight families who will occupy the newest homes have helped with the construction, Ziegler said.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit agency that works to eliminate poverty worldwide by providing no-interest home loans for modest houses built with volunteer labor.
