Victim in Capsized Boat Off Venice Beach Dies
A man who spent about a half-hour underwater in a sailboat that sank more than a mile off Venice Beach Tuesday afternoon was pronounced dead shortly after he was transported to a hospital.
Members of the Los Angeles County lifeguard dive team found Robert Park inside his 54-foot vessel, the Aquarius, authorities said. He was the only person aboard the boat.
Park’s boat was out of Fort Bragg, but his destination was unknown. The cause of the sinking was not immediately determined.
The divers put the man aboard a lifeguard boat, and paramedics, using cardiopulmonary resuscitation, attempted to revive him. At shore, the victim was transported by ambulance to Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital where he died, a hospital spokeswoman said.
