‘Evita’ to Fill Out OCPAC Series
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita†will complete the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s 1998-99 Broadway Series, the rest of which was previously announced, center officials said Friday.
The touring roadshow, to be staged April 20-25 in Segerstrom Hall, is a 20th-anniversary remounting of the musical, which premiered in 1978 with Patti LuPone in the title role, center officials said.
The Broadway season begins Sept. 15 with “Victor/Victoria†starring Toni Tennille. Also booked: “Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk†(May 11-16), “Riverdance--The Show†(June 3-9), “Sunset Boulevard†starring Petula Clark (July 20-25, 1999) and “Miss Saigon†(Sept. 7-12 1999).
In other center news, trustee Roger T. Kirwan, vice chairman for development, has been named chairman designate by sitting chair Mark Chapin Johnson. Kirwan, president of Deutsche Financial Services’ consumer finance division, will stand for election in July 1999. He lives in Newport Beach.
Also this week, 14 incumbent board members were reelected to the board: Joan F. Beall, Mike E. Davis, Benjamin R. Du, Dale J. Fraaza, John C. Garrett, Robert G. Magnuson, Thomas H. Nielsen, Harold S. Schultz, Timothy L. Strader, Thomas T. Tierney, David H. Troob, Marvin A. Weiss, Carol L. Wilken and Sam Yau.
