Airport Gearing Up for Weekend’s Show
Work was underway Thursday at Van Nuys Airport, where the annual airshow, one of the San Fernando Valley’s biggest events, is scheduled this weekend.
About 300,000 spectators are expected to brave scorching temperatures Saturday and Sunday to catch the two-day Aviation Expo ‘98, with exhibits of aerobatics and helicopter demonstrations.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with a flyover by the Van Nuys-based Condor Squadron, which flies World War II-era planes. Aerial entertainment will begin at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with an aerobatic flying circus finale about 3 p.m. both days.
The gates will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission, parking and shuttle service are free.
