Thomas Parham, UC Irvine assistant vice chancellor of counseling and health services, recently received the 1998 Distinguished Service Award from the Black Chamber of Commerce of Orange County.
The award recognizes individuals who have helped improve the quality of life for African Americans and other minorities.
Parham was honored during a banquet last month at the Disneyland Hotel that was attended by business and civic leaders and members of the Tuskegee Airmen, who defended America during World War II.
