Pepperdine Comes Back in Season Opener, 7-5
The Pepperdine baseball team trailed Nevada twice in its season opener but emerged with a 7-5 nonconference victory Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium in Malibu.
G.J. Raymundo led off the seventh inning with a home run for Pepperdine to break a 5-5 tie.
In other baseball games:
Cal State Northridge 9, Cal Baptist 0--Jose Vasquez combined with three other pitchers to allow only four hits and the Matadors (3-4) used home runs by Eric Horvat and Adrian Mendoza in a nonconference game.
Glendale 7, East Los Angeles 0--Chris Sheldon (1-0) had a no-hitter for 7 1/3 innings and allowed just one hit over eight innings for Glendale in a first-round Harbor tournament game at East Los Angeles.
Canyons 4, Harbor 1--Jeremy Shields (1-0) pitched seven shutout innings and Nick Katzenstein had three hits and scored two runs for the Cougars (1-0) in a first-round Harbor tournament game at Harbor.
Oxnard 7, L.A. City 5--Matt Pesso was three for four, including a two-out, two-run double in the seventh that broke a 5-5 tie for Oxnard (1-0) in round-robin play in the Rio Hondo tournament.
Moorpark 11, Fullerton 10--Steve Nelson had three hits and drove in two runs, and Anthony Barton had three hits, including a double, for Moorpark (1-1) at the Orange Coast tournament.

Brigham Young d. CS Northridge 15-11, 15-3, 15-2--MorJunior Mosones had 12 kills and Chad Strickland added eight for the Matadors in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
