Cowboys Dragging Feet on Naming Coach
It has been 18 days since Barry Switzer resigned as coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and owner Jerry Jones has yet find a replacement.
Jones has interviewed former San Francisco 49er coach George Seifert and former UCLA coach Terry Donahue twice each. He also has interviewed Green Bay offensive coordinator Sherman Lewis and has a strong interest in Brian Billick of the Minnesota Vikings as offensive coordinator.
Jones has not yet interviewed Denver Bronco offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who was rumored to be one of his choices.

An estimated 650,000 Denver Broncos fans, including some clinging to traffic lights and others on rooftops, paid homage to the Super Bowl champions Tuesday during a parade and rally in downtown Denver.
Meanwhile, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, some 35,000 fans showed up to honor the Packers.

The Packers hope to negotiate a contract extension to keep Mike Holmgren as coach through 2002--the same as General Manager Ron Wolf’s current contract, team president Bob Harlan said.
Holmgren’s current deal, paying him an estimated $1.5 million a year, ends after the 1999 season.
Harlan said talk of the Seattle Seahawks’ interest in Holmgren had been a distraction during Super Bowl week and added the Seahawks haven’t asked him for permission to talk to Holmgren.

The Baltimore Ravens plan to move ahead without running back Bam Morris. After an eight-hour evaluation by the team’s front office, coaching and scouting staffs, a source told the Baltimore Sun that the Ravens will not re-sign Morris, their leading rusher last season who is now serving a four-month jail term for violating the terms of his probation resulting from a 1996 marijuana possession conviction.

NFL President Paul Tagliabue says that, if needed, he’ll settle any ownership rift between Edward DeBartolo Jr. and his sister, the San Francisco Examiner reported.
Tagliabue met Monday with Mayor Willie Brown and 49er president Carmen Policy after reports the dispute might delay construction of a new $525-million stadium by several months.

Joe Bugel, fired as the Oakland Raiders’ coach on Jan. 6, was named offensive line coach for the San Diego Chargers. . . . The Philadelphia Eagles have hired Stanford assistant coach Dana Bible as offensive coordinator.
