Lakey’s Shot Finishes Crespi
Sophomore Russell Lakey made a 15-foot shot with 14 seconds left to give Harvard-Westlake High a 70-69 victory over Crespi in a Mission League boys’ basketball game Saturday night at Harvard-Westlake.
Lakey finished with 15 points for the Wolverines (15-4, 4-2).
Pat Casella scored 21 points for Crespi (9-10, 3-3).
Chaminade 70, St. Francis 58--Justin Beach had 30 points and 12 rebounds, and Justin Stewart added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the top-ranked Eagles (17-1, 6-0) in a Mission League game at St. Francis.
Chaminade took a 20-3 lead after one quarter when St. Francis (8-8, 2-3) made one of 16 shots.
Richard Fields warmed up after that, hitting seven three-point shots, and finished with 32 points for the Golden Knights.
Santa Maria St. Joseph 73, Bell-Jeff 71--Ruben Douglas had 43 points and 11 rebounds but it wasn’t enough for the Guards at Bell-Jeff.
St. Joseph held Mike West to eight points and 10 rebounds, both season lows.
Douglas made seven of 10 three-point shots for the Guards (11-11), who squandered a 37-25 lead.
Mike Hoffman scored 30 points for St. Joseph (13-7).
Maranatha 56, L.A. Baptist 55--Ben Hamady’s free throw with five seconds left gave the Minutemen a victory at Pasadena High.
Frank Vasquez scored 20 points for L.A Baptist (5-12, 0-4), which rallied from a 10-point deficit with two minutes left to tie the score, 55-55.
GIRLS
Hart 65, Arroyo 22--Melissa Harrison scored eight of her 15 points in the second quarter for the Indians at Hart.
Third-ranked Hart (16-2) scored 20 points in the second quarter and 24 in the third.
Flintridge Sacred Heart 47, La Salle 44--Danielle Dal Ponte scored 23 points and Danielle Turner added 10 for the Tologs (6-9) at La Salle (12-5).
Nordhoff 66, Santa Clara 44--Erin Barker scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Rangers in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff.
Nell Becker had 11 points, seven assists and eight steals and Christen Roper added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Nordhoff (15-5, 4-1).
Nordhoff outscored Santa Clara, 25-6, in the third quarter, with the Saints making only one basket over a 10-minute span.
Sue Hallahan scored 22 points for Santa Clara.
Ribet Academy 46, L.A. Lutheran 35--LeAnne Bennett, who scored 71 points earlier in the week against First Lutheran, scored 28 for the Fighting Frogs before fouling out in the fourth quarter of a Heritage League game at L.A. Lutheran (7-7).
Campbell Hall 54, Windward 34--Patty Ahn had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Emily Abrams added 15 points and six steals for the Vikings (8-7) in a nonleague game at Campbell Hall.
Cornerstone Christian 51, Cate 32--Julia Tamai had 20 points and nine rebounds, and Karri Becker had 14 points and eight steals for the Eagles (9-5, 4-0) in a Condor League game at Cate.
Thacher 51, Villanova 49--Katie Russell and Cheryl Lynn Horton each scored 20 points for the Toads (3-7, 2-1) in a Condor League game at Villanova.
