State Lottery Adds Daily Derby Game

SACRAMENTO — A new online game with a horse racing theme has been introduced by the California Lottery.
Started Tuesday, Daily Derby, on regular lottery terminals, is played by selecting three horses from a field of 12--one to finish first, one to finish second and one to finish third--and a race time. The race time is the amount of time the first place horse takes to finish the race.
Players can win various levels of prizes by correctly matching horses and/or race times.
Odds range from 1-in-1.3 million for an estimated $200,000 average “grand prize” to 1-in-13 for an average $3 prize in the “win category.”
Tickets cost $2. As in the Lotto game, if no one wins the grand prize, the prize money rolls into the next day’s grand prize pool.
To win the grand prize, players must match, in exact order, the winning race time and the first-, second- and third-place horses.
Drawings will be held once a day at 6:58 p.m., seven days a week.
