Gunman, Girlfriend Die of Wounds
A 22-year-old Stanton woman and the father of her two children both died Tuesday from injuries suffered when he shot her in the head and then turned the gun on himself.
Brent Robert Irwin, 26, died at UCI Medical Center in Orange about 5:30 a.m., nearly 12 hours after the shooting. His girlfriend, Tiffany Deaton, died about noon, officials said.
Sheriff’s Lt. Hector Rivera said the couple has had a troubled relationship for quite a while. Deputies had been sent previously to disturbance calls at the two-bedroom apartment in the 10800 block of Beach Boulevard, he said.
Relatives and friends of the couple said Deaton, 22, who broke up with Irwin several weeks ago, recently took a trip to Las Vegas with another man.
The couple’s children, ages 2 and 5, were in the apartment, along with other relatives, when the shootings took place Monday. The children were not injured and have been placed with relatives, Rivera said.
