Valley Women Pull Away in Second Half

Tanya McLaughlin scored 20 points and Nyoki McKeith sparked a second-half surge as the Valley College women’s basketball team defeated Pierce, 68-53, in a Western State Conference South Division game Monday night at Pierce.
McKeith made two steals and a pair of baskets in an 11-0 run by the Monarchs (13-8, 1-0) after Pierce (4-14, 0-2) pulled to within seven points with 10 minutes to play. McKeith finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and six steals.
Meresaini Malaki added 14 points and Maricela Rodriguez had 14 rebounds to go with nine points.
Cheryl Flores scored 20 points for Pierce and Felicia Flores added 11.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Providence 55, Viewpoint 42--Xavier Quimbo and David Azer scored 12 points each for the Pioneers (8-5, 3-2) in a Liberty League game at Viewpoint (6-6, 1-4). Dickron Tashdjian added 11 points and Apollo Kacsinta had 10 for Providence.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Providence 60, Viewpoint 26--Cathleen Reuter had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Patty Aguirre added 10 points for the Pioneers (12-1, 5-0) in a Liberty League game at Viewpoint.
BOYS’ SOCCER
St. Bonaventure 1, Oak Park 0--Alex Doran scored in the 30th minute for the Seraphs (5-3-2, 2-1-1) in a Tri-Valley game.
Newbury Park 5, Channel Islands 5--Brian White scored three goals for the Panthers (7-6-4, 2-3-2) and Juan Amezcua had three for Channel Islands in a Marmonte League match at Newbury Park.
