Marguerite Van Winkle; Retired Bookkeeper

Marguerite Van Winkle, a retired bookkeeper for the Ojai Electric Co. and a county resident for 70 years, died Friday at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. She was 81.

Van Winkle was born Dec. 27, 1916, in San Fernando. She moved with her family to the county when she was 11. When she was 33, she married Milton Van Winkle, with whom she had two sons. The couple lived in Ojai.

“She was a very thoughtful, loving and kind person,†Milton Van Winkle said. “She was a very good cook, and she was very particular about the house. It was always beautiful.â€

The Van Winkles owned a camper and spent many happy days traveling the United States, her husband said.

“We liked being outdoors,†he said. “Our favorite spot was wherever we happened to be at the time.â€

Marguerite Van Winkle was a member of the Native Daughters of America and the Ojai Women’s Club.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, David Van Winkle of Ojai and Michael Van Winkle of Las Vegas.

Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura.
