Pool Safety Is Focus of New City Program

It’s every parent’s nightmare--a toddler walks out of the house unnoticed and drowns in a nearby swimming pool.
The tragedy is played out throughout Orange County every year as drownings and close calls occur with alarming frequency in backyard pools.
In an effort to reduce drownings in Garden Grove, the city has launched a pool permit process that will include door alarms and safety information.
“We want to help pool owners understand the safety issues of owning a pool and help create a safer environment for home pools and spas,” said Jim Martin, building services division manager of the new pool safety awareness program.
Before granting final approval to fill pools, inspectors will give homeowners the safety information and a battery-powered door alarm.
