El Toro Advances With Overtime Win
El Toro continued its wild-card run as the Chargers upset visiting Long Beach Millikan, 1-0, in sudden-death overtime in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division I boys’ soccer playoffs Friday at Trabuco Hills High School.
The winning goal came at the 118th-minute mark, when Ryan Teramoto headed the ball in off a throw-in. The game was dominated by goalkeepers: El Toro’s Josh Saunders had 12 saves; Millikan’s Javier Mendoza had 13.
El Toro (13-10-2) plays Arcadia Tuesday in the semifinals. The site will be determined by a coin flip today. Millikan finishes 19-5-2.
In Division V:
Palos Verdes Peninsula Chadwick 2, Orange Lutheran 1 (OT)--Goals by Luke Putman and Mark Thorinton in overtime put an end the season for top-seeded Orange Lutheran. Jon Talmage scored for the Lancers (20-2-3). Chadwick is 7-11-6.
