Activist Is Named Woman of the Year
Her work with the troubled is well-known in northwest Orange County.
Now she’s getting a little recognition.
Longtime community activist Myldred Jones, who helped found and sustain the We Care food bank and the Casa Youth Shelter in Los Alamitos, has been named the Americana Woman of the Year by the Cypress College Foundation.
Jones, 88, was selected for her service to the community and humanitarian spirit.
The Los Alamitos City Council honored her with a proclamation this week as well.
Her accomplishments are numerous.
She started a crisis hotline and We Care in 1975 and the Casa Youth Shelter in 1978.
Jones is so dedicated to the charities that she lives next to them on Reagan Street, known locally as Charity Row and Love Street.
“My home is here because these agencies are here,†she said.
