SIMI VALLEY — Police are warning Simi Valley residents about a rash of vehicle thefts in recent weeks.
Thieves have snatched 17 vehicles in the city in just the past 14 days, and only four of the stolen autos have been recovered--three of them in Los Angeles, Simi Valley Police Lt. Don Austin said Wednesday.
Nearly half of the thefts have been of General Motors sport utility vehicles or pickup trucks. Most of the thefts have been at night from residential neighborhoods throughout the city.
All the vehicles were reported to have been locked when they were stolen, and some were taken from the owners’ driveways.
Police are warning people to park their vehicles in garages or use security devices. In addition, they are asking residents to report any suspicious looking people in their neighborhoods.
