A panel consisting of Simi Valley school trustees, administrators, union leaders, a principal and a PTA representative will gather behind closed doors Mondayto interview three interim schools chief candidates.

The next day, the Simi Valley Unified School District’s five trustees will meet in closed session at 4:30 p.m. to possibly select a new leader to fill in for about six months.

A vacancy was left in early February when Dan Flynn--who had been hired three months before--was forced to resign.

Flynn was the district’s seventh superintendent in as many years.

No official reason for his departure was given, but some trustees have said that Flynn did not know how to manage the district’s $150-million budget and that he intended to reorganize some of the administration without the entire board’s consent.

Four resumes were submitted this week for the interim job, but one candidate pulled out, said Kathy Scroggin, assistant superintendent of educational services. She is temporarily filling in for Flynn.

Scroggin would not give the names or qualifications of the candidates, citing confidentiality.
