The Call Goes Out to Recycle Phone Books
It’s time for new telephone books to arrive--and time to recycle the old ones, Ventura County waste management officials remind residents.
In most parts of the county, residents may simply leave the books with newspapers for curbside recycling or dispose of them at regular recycling centers. Temporary recycling centers for phone books also have been set up around the county.
Pacific Bell customers, who are asked to recycle their books by March 30, may dial (800) 953-4400 for disposal locations. GTE customers, who are asked to recycle between April 10 and May 5, may call (800) 610-4992.
And residents in areas where both phone companies distribute directories can recycle their old books during either of the recycling periods, said David Goldstein, an analyst with the county waste management department.
The recycling periods correspond with distribution of new books.
