FORT WILLIAM, Scotland — An avalanche swept seven young hikers on a “winter skills” training climb from a mountain in northwest Scotland, killing four. The others were rescued Wednesday after being buried in snow for 16 hours.
The group was climbing Aonoch Mor in the Scottish Highlands when caught in the Tuesday avalanche about 3,500 feet up the mountain.
They were reported missing Tuesday night when they did not return from the day’s climb. Royal Air Force rescue teams found the group early Wednesday.
