TWA Reports Fewer Canceled Flights
Trans World Airlines reported far fewer cancellations after a judge ordered union flight attendants staging a “sickout” back to work, but hundreds of travelers remained stranded. Dozens of disgruntled attendants called in sick, paralyzing the airline’s St. Louis hub during the busy holiday season. The sickout started Thursday, leaving travelers waiting in lines, scrambling for other flights or hunting for hotel rooms. TWA canceled about 45 flights Saturday, down from more than 90 the day before, a spokesman said. Delays were averaging 38 minutes Saturday, but some passengers reported waits approaching three hours.
