Electric Utilities: The deregulation of California’s electricity market will continue, with utilities looking to unload the last of their fossil-fuel power plants. Foreign utilities, which have been shopping for acquisitions in the United States, will probably make bids for one or more California companies. New companies will rush to build power plants to gain a toehold in California before the market opens completely in 2002.
