NEW YORK — As we hurtle toward 1999, the big question in media circles is who is the PR mastermind behind the glamorization and dramatization and dynamic new presentation of Hillary Rodham Clinton?
The Vogue cover, the many public appearances, the cozying up to Miramax and Harvey Weinstein--the explosive potential of a Time magazine cover as Person of the Year. Who is the genius behind it all? Those who admire Mrs. Clinton--and those who don’t--might conclude that she is doing it all on her own. Perhaps. But she’s getting some superb extra help as her tenure as first lady winds down in circumstances that are unbearably unpleasant. (Even if her husband is not impeached, the Clintons have only two years left in Washington anyway.) Mrs. Clinton is a survivor. The iceberg has struck, but’s she’s on the life raft.
