Deal of the Week
Budget travelers to Alaska can save on bus, ferry and rail transportation by ordering the AlaskaPass Travelpass, on sale now for the 1999 summer season. The pass provides unlimited travel for eight to 30 consecutive days. The price is $499 to $949 for adults and $249 to $475 for children (ages 3-11), depending on the period covered. Savings vary by how much you travel. For instance, according to figures from AlaskaPass Inc., you’d save $362 by using the $699, 15-day pass for a fairly ambitious round-trip from Bellingham, Wash., that includes overnight stays on the ferry and in Skagway, Fairbanks, Denali National Park, Anchorage, Beaver Creek and Haines, Alaska. For less distance covered, savings would be less. You can book on your own or pay $79 per pass to have the 9-year-old AlaskaPass firm, based in Vashon, Wash., do bookings for you, including small hotels, B&Bs; and hostels along the way. A caveat: The pass does not include ferry cabins, for which you must pay extra. Information: telephone (800) 248-7598.
