Channel Islands Takes Gold Coast Title, 60-52

Jaline Bradley scored 29 points, including 14 of 14 free throws, and Channel Islands High won the championship of the Gold Coast tournament with a 60-52 victory over Moorpark on Saturday night at Rio Mesa.

The Raiders (6-1) led, 34-25, at halftime, forcing Moorpark (5-1) into using a pressure defense to start the second half.

But Channel Islands extended its lead by outscoring Moorpark, 12-7, in the third quarter.

Damaris Hinojosa, Ventura County player of the year last season, had 25 points, 17 rebounds and six assists for Moorpark.

“They were a little quicker,” Coach Brent Milburn of Moorparksaid.

Monique Taylor had 13 points and Chenne Tuimoloau added 11 for Channel Islands.

In other games:

Royal 67, San Marcos 44--Mari Myllykoski scored 25 points and Kristen Galbreath had 20 to help the Highlanders take fifth place in the Gold Coast tournament.

Teresa Russell had 15 rebounds, eight assists and seven blocked shots for Royal (3-1).

La Reina 42, Grace Brethren 32--Cheryl Kruer scored seven of her 11 points and Lindsay Mettam had six of her 14 in the third quarter, and the Regents (5-1) had an 11-0 run to break open the third-place game of the Nordhoff tournament.

Katie Hunt had 14 points for Grace Brethren.

Simi Valley 72, Schurr 65--Annmarie Turpin and Sherice Gamble combined for 18 of the Pioneers’ 28 fourth-quarter points that gave them fifth place in the St. Lucy’s tournament.

Turpin had 11 of her 23 points and Gamble had seven of her 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Simi Valley (5-1) overcome eight three-point baskets by Schurr (4-2).

Jamie Sturdivant of Simi Valley had nine points and eight assists, and made five of six free throws in the last two minutes.

Notre Dame 69, Santa Paula 49--K.K. Barwick made nine of 13 shots and scored 21 points for the Knights, who won the ninth-place game of the Valencia tournament.

Barwick had eight points in the Knights’ 22-point second quarter.

Sierra Hauser-Price, who had 15 points and 10 rebounds, scored nine points in the fourth quarter for Notre Dame (6-1).

Burroughs 46, Nordhoff 34--Danica Cunningham scored six of her eight points during a 10-0 run to open the game and the Indians (3-3) won the consolation final of the Nordhoff tournament.

Nordhoff did not score in the first five minutes.

Antelope Valley 52, Big Bear 48--Jacquana Young scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half and the Antelopes won at Big Bear.

Crystal McCutcheon scored 18 points for Antelope Valley (2-3).

Rio Mesa 50, Dos Pueblos 43--Maribel Ambriz had 13 points and the Spartans made 21 of 33 free throws to take seventh in the Gold Coast tournament.
