Water Class--Go with the flow to learn about water during a tour conducted by the Yorba Linda Water District from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19. A chartered bus will take visitors to the Diemer water filtration plant to observe the water-quality testing laboratory and the water filtration and treatment processes. Other stops include the Richfield Road plant, the ground water recharging operation at the Santa Ana River, reservoirs and other facilities. Emphasis will be given to water resources, how and why water is imported from the Colorado River and Northern California, water supply and conservation, drought-tolerant landscapes and water quality. Cheep Date--Get in on the early bird prices for the Amigos de Bolsa Chica’s 19th annual “Running Is for the Birds†walk and run Oct. 10. The cost is $20 for adults who register before Sept. 25 and $23 after. Youth prices are $15 and $17. Funds raised go toward the acquisition, restoration and enhancement of the Bolsa Chica wetlands. It takes place on the north end of Bolsa Chica State Beach at Pacific Coast Highway near Warner Avenue in Huntington Beach. Registration on the day of the event runs from 7 to 8 a.m. The 10K run begins at 8:30 a.m., the 5K run at 8:40 and the 5K walk at 8:45. Information: (714) 897-7003.
Bat Fan--Stephanie Remington, an expert on Orange County bats, will discuss the reclusive mammals at a free public lecture presented by the Orange County Natural History Assn. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Sea Country Community Center, 24602 Aliso Creek Road, Laguna Niguel. (949) 487-9155.
