Irvine Barclay Adds Music, Magic and More to Season

The Irvine Barclay Theatre has announced the full lineup for its wide-ranging 1998-99 season.
Musical events begin Oct. 14-15 with the “House of Blues: Highway 61 Tour,” featuring Booker T. Jones, John Hammond, Billy Boy Arnold and the Blind Boys of Alabama. Feb. 5 will bring Mavis Staples’ “Tribute to Mahalia Jackson.”
Theatrical events begin Dec. 29-Jan. 9 with a David Mamet-directed off-Broadway magic show, “Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants,” and go on to include “Cirque Eloize: Excentricus II” March 31-April 3, among others.
The season also includes such family and outreach events as Nickelodeon’s “Gullah Gullah Island Live” Oct. 10-11.
These shows join a previously announced lineup including cellist Yo-Yo Ma, tenor Ben Heppner, the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Irish band Solas.
