Man Pulled From Sea Dies in Hospital
A Paramount man rescued by lifeguards at Crystal Cove State Park on Sunday afternoon has died, officials said Monday.
Edward Andres, 52, was walking in the water with his wife, Ginger, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday when a strong rip current suddenly hit them, causing them to lose their footing, Supervising Deputy Coroner Joseph Luckey said.
Ginger Andres was pulled to safety, but Edward Andres was pummeled by a series of huge waves and was unconscious when lifeguards pulled him from the water, Luckey said.
Andres was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach and placed on life support, but he never regained consciousness and died at 3:35 a.m., Luckey said.
