From wire reports

Wilfredo Cordero, facing a trial for assaulting his wife, was put on unconditional release waivers by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, moments after a season-ending 3-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

“We felt it best to let him go and make a deal with another club,†General Manager Dan Duquette said. “It just wasn’t going to work out in Boston.â€

Cordero has been in trouble with Red Sox management since he was charged with assaulting and threatening to kill his wife after an incident June 11 at their home in Cambridge, Mass.
