Carpool Lanes
* It’s no wonder drivers have little respect for Caltrans, after reading the remarks of Dawn Helou, a senior engineer with that agency (Street Smart, Sept. 14). Citing confusion as well as expense for not allowing single operators in the carpool lanes during nonpeak hours, she single-handedly gave us drivers a new reason to hate those orange trucks and cones. As far as the argument about more time spent in court, this is still America, and we do have the freedom to challenge citations.
Wake up, Caltrans District 7, we are not as ignorant as you depict us to be, and in fact if our northern neighbors can figure out the carpool lane restrictions, so can we.
