Edison Field Sparks Static
* The Angels cannot attract fans to games in a pennant race, so what do the Angels have planned for next season:
Raise ticket prices; prohibit fans from bringing food into the stadium; rename the stadium to Edison International Field of Anaheim, or Edison Field for short (Sept. 16).
When I want to go to an Angels game, I go to the Big A or Anaheim Stadium, not the Edison International Field of Anaheim. Is all the tradition of the Angels gone now that Disney is in control?
If I want a “Disney Experience†I will go to Disneyland. If I want to see a baseball game, I will go see the Angels at the Big A. I do not want a Disney Experience at a baseball game, I want a baseball game.

* I can just see it now. Sports commentator: “That play was electric; the air was filled with static and the fans were aglow over that glimmering double play at first base. The fans are simply shocked that the opposing team is so wired together that they are not making any errors.â€
Enough is enough. Disney is despicable. First they assault our senses with the absurd cheerleaders, and now they grab for the last buck and change our beloved Angel Stadium to Edison International Field.

* I’m always naive about these things, but is anyone else a bit bothered by hearing that the same company we pay for our utility services has enough money to ante up $1.4 million each year to stick its name on Angel Stadium?

* According to Mayor Tom Daly, “Whoever’s name is on the stadium is marketing Anaheim.†How does a network TV broadcast from Edison Field market Anaheim?
Prime advertising space inside the stadium no doubt means space behind home plate, within camera view, will read Edison.
What about the lease agreement that stipulates the city’s name must remain somewhere in the title? A corporate sponsor is a good idea, but at whose expense? The city of Anaheim’s?
We’re outraged as Anaheim residents and taxpayers. What’s next, Edisonland? City of Edison, Calif.? Edison Angels?
Public image may be important for Edison next year, but public image should be of foremost importance for the Disney organization, keeping in mind where Disneyland is located: Anaheim, Calif.
