Man Arrested in Teen Girl’s Shooting
OXNARD — A 19-year-old Oxnard man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of shooting a 16-year-old girl in the face.
John Ayala was taken to Ventura County Jail and charged with attempted murder.
The suspect, whom police believe may have been dating Ayala, was treated and released from St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
Oxnard Police Officer Ray Mosones said he saw a driver run a stop sign about 8:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Anchorage Street. The driver jumped out of his car and tried to run, Mosones said. But he gave chase and caught Ayala.
Earlier, police heard a radio report that gunshots had been fired near the 4400 block of Dallas Drive.
Ayala matched the description of the person who had fired those shots, Mosones said.
The victim told police that she suspected Ayala had been lying in wait for her.
