Permit Is Issued for Urgent Care Clinic
A plan to create Moorpark’s first urgent care clinic is underway after the City Council agreed this week to issue a commercial permit to DeeWayne Jones.
The Santa Paula dentist won approval for a two-story center off Los Angeles Road near the intersection of Liberty Bell Road. The complex would include the city’s first urgent care center as well as restaurants, shops and professional offices. “Recognizing that a full-scale hospital is probably a pipe dream, [an urgent care center] greatly enhances the availability of medical services for Moorpark residents,†said Councilman Bernardo Perez.
The city issued the permit Wednesday with the requirement that Jones pay the Air Pollution Control District $143,000, a mitigation fee for the pollution the complex could create. Jones had calculated a significantly lower fee, about $2,500.
Jones has been negotiating with Columbia Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks to create a satellite urgent care facility in his building. The complex could be open as early as summer of 1998.
