Expansion Plans Told for Aquatics Complex

The Irvine Unified School District this week heard a report about proposals to expand Heritage Park Aquatics Complex.
Charles Neuman, president of Water Technology Inc., gave details of a proposal for the center, which could include a concession area and would be paid for with city and district funds.
The consultant stressed that the project is in the early stages and has a long way to go before any plans are finalized.
“This is a concept,” Neuman said. “But we do think it meets the needs. Our next step is refining the budget, doing space studies and addressing other matters as needed.”
Neuman’s presentation was well-received except for two parents--both with children attending adjacent Irvine High School--who said they are worried that plans for the school’s new gym will be affected by the proposed aquatics complex.
But board member Paul Reed said $1.7 million set aside for the gym won’t be used for the complex.
