Councilman Misses 5th Meeting; Concerns Raised on Attendance

City Councilman James D. Petrikin missed his fifth council meeting of the year Tuesday--apparently for health reasons--and his colleagues are raising concerns about his attendance, officials said.
Mayor John J. Collins said Petrikin did not call to say he would not be attending the meeting.
“I want him to call and tell me if he’s not going to come here,” Collins said. “I am very sensitive to the fact the man has serious medical problems and I am not heartless to that, but we’re trying to run a city here.”
Collins said he believes that Petrikin is staying at a ranch in Northern California. City Hall could not provide an address or phone number for Petrikin--either inside or outside the city limits. He has reportedly moved around this year and was last known to be staying with a friend in the city.
Petrikin, saying he needed to recover from back surgery, resigned as mayor in January but chose to stay on the council.
