The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences continues its “Academy Standard Series” tonight at 7:30 in its Samuel Goldwyn Theater with two films that won Oscars for art direction--as well as in other categories.
“Phantom of the Opera” (1943), with art direction by John B. Goodman and Alexander Golitzen, and “Moulin Rouge” (1952), with art direction by Pal Sheriff, will be screened at the theater at 8949 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills. Prior to the screenings, the academy’s exhibition galleries will be open to ticket holders, allowing them to view “From Script to Screen,” a survey of film production design.
