West Valley Christian Church on Sunday will host its first “Bridge the Gap” multicultural family festival showcasing the ethnic diversity among Christian believers.
With contemporary Christian music, food booths and children’s activities, the racially mixed congregation hopes to show that people from different backgrounds sharing the same faith can come together for fun and fellowship, said Ken Hawes, the church’s minister of worship and event organizer.
“We have found that you can bridge different races, cultures and educational backgrounds under the umbrella of Jesus,” Hawes said. “We want to show that we can have unity through diversity.”
Recording artists Leon Patillo, formerly of Santana, and the Jeffrey David Band, featuring Cindy Herron Braggs of the R & B group En Vogue are scheduled to perform, Hawes said. Children’s activities will include face-painting and a moon bounce, among other attractions, he said.
The free event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at Warner Center Park, Woodland Hills.
