Hoyer-Larsen Wins at U.S. Open
Denmark’s Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen, the 1996 Olympic gold-medal winner in badminton, advanced to the quarterfinal round of the men’s singles at the U.S. Open Badminton Championships Tuesday at the Orange County Badminton Club.
Hoyer-Larsen defeated Patrice Ritchie of Canada, 15-2, 15-2. Also advancing was China’s Dong Jiong, who is ranked second in the world. He defeated Howard Bach of Colorado Springs, Colo., 15-7, 15-3.
Kevin Han, also of Colorado Springs and the top-ranked U.S. player, lost to En-Horng Liu of Taiwan, 15-12, 15-6.
Competition continues today at 4 p.m.
