COLUMBIA, S.C. — A 10-day-old baby who died when her mother left her in a car in 90-degree heat while she played video poker was probably dead for several hours before she was found, a newspaper said Wednesday.
An autopsy indicated that Joy Baker died of dehydration at 4 p.m. Friday, the Beaufort Gazette reported. Her mother, Army Sgt. Gail Baker, didn’t realize anything was wrong until she drove home from the casino late in the evening. Baker could get life in prison if convicted of homicide by child abuse.
