Ex-UC Irvine Doctor Convicted of Fraud
SANTA ANA — Dr. Sergio C. Stone, a former partner in the fertility clinic that plunged UC Irvine into an international scandal involving alleged thefts of human eggs and embryos, was convicted Thursday of nine counts of fraudulently billing insurance companies.
Stone was acquitted on 14 other charges. He was taken into custody and will be sentenced Feb. 9.
