City Submits Wish List for Community Grants
The city is seeking $770,000 in federal grant money for community projects ranging from a new storm drain to sidewalks for the Atwood area.
The City Council last week approved a list of funding requests for 1998-99, which will be forwarded to Orange County officials. The county administers Community Block Grant money for Placentia because its population is less than 50,000.
The city’s wish list includes $50,000 to build sidewalks on the east side of Van Buren Street in Atwood. The city already received $25,000 in grant money for design plans for the sidewalk construction.
Another big item is $400,000 requested for storm drain improvements at Ramona Street and Walnut Avenue in the Santa Fe area. Other requests include funds for housing and business rehabilitation projects.
County housing and community development officials next spring will recommend how much grant money the city should receive. The city will not receive any grant money until October 1998.
