ANAHEIM — Magnolia’s powerful ball-control offense was too much for Anaheim to handle and the Sentinels rolled to a 34-0 victory in an Orange League game Friday at Western High School.
The Colonists were unable to stop Magnolia (6-0-1, 2-0), which put together one long drive after another.
Sentinel quarterback Anthony Zaragoza scored one touchdown rushing and threw for another, as the Sentinels led, 20-0, at halftime. Zaragoza scored on a one-yard run and threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Asi Faoa, which was set up by Zaragoza’s 57-yard pass to to Jeremy Becker
The Colonists (0-7, 0-2) squandered several chances to score. With four seconds left in the half, they elected to go for a touchdown from the Magnolia six. Jimmy Gorman’s pass was knocked down.
It was one of three times that the Colonists failed on a fourth down play. Earlier, they came up short on the Magnolia 32 yard line and again on the Sentinel 24.
Magnolia kept the ball on the ground in the second half, attempting just five passes. Will Speer carried most of the offensive load, rushing 24 times for 56 yards and one touchdown.
Magnolia’s Gucci Auletta ran for 66 yards in eight carries to lead all rushers.
