GARDEN GROVE — Los Amigos jumped out to an early lead and then cruised to a 35-14 victory over La Quinta in a Garden Grove League game Friday night at Bolsa Grande High School.
The win keeps the Lobos (5-0-1, 4-0) undefeated and sets up a potential matchup of unbeaten teams, when they host Rancho Alamitos on Nov. 7. Rancho Alamitos will play La Quinta (0-7, 0-3) Friday and Los Amigos will have a bye.
The Lobos got the ball at the La Quinta 16-yard line on their first possession, when the Aztecs flubbed a fake punt. Three plays later, Levertis Riley ran around the right side for a nine-yard touchdown. Riley led the Lobos with 66 yards in seven carries.
On the Lobos’ next possession, Najja Kee capped a 48-yard drive with a seven-yard run up the middle and the Lobos led, 14-0, at the half.
On the Aztecs first possession of the second half, Ray Sanchez picked off a Huy Huynh pass and returned it 84 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead. Riley added a 43-yard touchdown on the Lobos’ next possession and a 21-yard touchdown pass from back up quarterback Matt Crippen to Anthony Faletoi finished the Lobos’ scoring.
The Aztecs got two late touchdowns, including a 39-yard reception by Huynh to Ben Fredrickson on the last play of the game. Fredrickson caught five passes for 142 yards and one touchdown.
