Buena 14, San Marcos 12--Sophomore quarterback Kyle Loughman’s 15-yard touchdown pass to David McAlpine early in the fourth quarter led Buena (4-2, 2-1) at Ventura High.
Loughman teamed with McAlpine four plays into the fourth quarter after Josh Hines recovered a fumble at the San Marcos eight-yard line.
Quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt of San Marcos (3-3, 2-1) scored on a five-yard run with just under three minutes to play, but his pass on a two-point conversion try fell incomplete. Van Pelt completed 10 of 17 passes for 134 yards.
Aaron Kleefisch rushed one yard for Buena’s first touchdown late in the first half, giving the Bulldogs a 7-6 lead.
Buena defensive back Albert De La Rocha made his sixth interception of the season and also blocked a 38-yard field goal attempt before leaving with a sprained ankle in the second quarter.
