Crespi Gets Carved Up, 36-16

WOODLAND HILLS — Now that the meat and potatoes portion of Crespi High’s schedule has arrived, don’t be surprised if the Celts proclaim themselves vegetarians.
A healthy dose of Bishop Amat running back Mike Wagner left Crespi clutching its stomach for much of the evening as the Lancers rolled to a 36-16 victory in a Del Rey League game at Pierce College.
Wagner, a junior, scored three touchdowns and gained 103 yards in 24 carries.
Wagner wasn’t particularly flashy--his longest run was only 13 yards--but he was highly effective. He scored on runs of one, three and three yards.
Crespi (4-2, 0-1) was hoping to prove its nonleague record wasn’t artificial and that its wing-T offense could work in the Del Rey League.
Both failed miserably against Bishop Amat (6-0, 1-0).
After falling behind, 29-7, early in the third quarter, Crespi scraped the wing-T.
The Celts ran the ball 34 times and gained only 108 yards. A big chunk of that came on Kevin Carden’s 27-yard touchdown run late in the game.
Crespi scored its other touchdown in the second quarter on Alex Kropach’s five-yard run.
Bishop Amat gained 127 yards rushing and Sean Koelle passed for 204 yards, completing 15 of 19 passes, including a 12-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Gomez in the third quarter.
Crespi’s Kevin Cork completed 12 of 16 passes for 113 yards.
